Inazuma region in Genshin Impact |
Genshin Impact is an open world based game that introduces various areas for players to explore. Teyvat is the world displayed in this game, featuring various typical regions in it, such as Mondstadt, Liyue, Inazuma, Sumeru, and Fontaine. Each corner of this country presents interesting stories or lore, including Inazuma. The Inazuma region was first revealed in Genshin Impact v2.0 on July 21st, 2021. This region is closely related to political issues. Players who have not yet opened this region may often get the stories from NPCs in Liyue and Monstadt that Inazuma is a mysterious region.
The strong political identity of Inazuma is symbolized by the Raiden Shogun who is an Archon and ruler of this region. Since the Shogun's reign, it is known that the Inazumans' freedom has been suppressed and this country has also closed access to the outside world to create diplomacy with Inazuma. As a result, this country is known as a closed and mysterious country. The Raiden Shogun's reign is also considered a cruel dictatorship.
Inazuma itself is one of the regions in Genshin Impact where the culture and design of the place is inspired by Japan, so it makes sense that the lore taken is also inspired from there. The form of government projected in the Raiden Shogun story was later considered to be inspired by a true story that occurred during the Meiji Restoration in Japan. In the Edo period (1603 to 1868) it is known that Japan became a locked country (Sakoku) to minimize new ideas and threats from outside. The Meiji Restoration was the beginning of a change in Japan's political system to become more open and modern. This event was accompanied by the rebellion of several groups in Japan, such as the Anti-Shogun forces, imperialists and foreign powers.
The political system told in the lore of Inazuma is known that the Raiden Shogun is the puppet of Raiden Ei, the real Archon who is hiding in her consciousness. In addition, the Raiden Shogun is assisted by a Tri-Commission system consisting of the Tenryou Commission which handles military and national security, the Kanjou Commission which handles economic and foreign affairs, and the Yashiro Commission which handles cultural and social activities. Unfortunately, these officials were caught committing corruption, while Raiden Shogun herself did not know about it.
Referring to this story, Raiden Shogun and the Tri-Commission represent the Tokugawa Shogunate government led by Tokugawa Yoshinobu, the last shogun who led Japan during the Meiji restoration. Tokugawa was known as a strict leader and his government system was centered on feudalism alone. He was also the one who made Japan a locked country, this really suits Raiden Shogun's character.
On the other hand, there is also the Watatsumi army led by Sangonomiya Kokomi who opposes Raiden Shogun and wants Raiden Ei's return. This case represents the anti-shogun forces who opposed the leadership of the Tokugawa shogun as well as the imperialists who supported Emperor Meiji to return to lead Japan.
The end of the Inazuma lore is also more or less similar to the Meiji Restoration where Inazuma finally opened up to the outside world and the Raiden Shogun was overthrown. In the development of this story, Traveler or players are required to meet Raiden Ei and negotiate to stop the shogun.
