A new region, Fontaine, has been added to Genshin Impact version 4.0. This also unlocks recent updates in the game including the appearance of new characters affiliated with the region. Wriothesley has attracted fans' attention since his first appearance in the spoiler provided by HoYoverse on October 11, 2023. Being the first Cryo character to use a catalyst as a weapon, some fans predicted his role would be a DPS Cryo with broken kit.

With the emergence of this newest DPS Cryo, a few fans are comparing Wriothesley with Ayaka, the most favorite DPS Cryo. Even though Wriothesley has a pretty attractive kit, some fans still consider Ayaka to be the best DPS Cryo player at the moment.

Reported on the official HoYolab community page, a user INSOO conducted a poll on who is the best DPS Cryo between Ayaka, Ganyu, and also Wriothesley. The poll results showed Ayaka ahead with 50%, Wriothesley 36.21%, and Ganyu got the rest.

According to Ayaka's voters in the comments section, Ayaka is still the best Cryo DPS compared to Wriothesley because of her high elemental burst damage. Meanwhile, Wriothesley does not rely on elemental bursts to produce the highest damage, but uses normal attacks. They considers that Wriothesley's damage is still low compared to Ayaka.

However, is Wriothesley not good enough as a Cryo DPS?

One community member with the username Qreex2 chose Wriothesley as his best Cryo DPS. He thought Wriothesley's gameplay was quite easy to play. Whereas a user BurlyMuscleCat said that both Ayaka and Wriothesley have their respective advantages and disadvantages, but he prefers Wriothesley. According to him, to cause big damage, Ayaka needs a quite complicated team rotation, in contrast to Wriothesley who can still show good performance even though the team is not perfectly built.

Who is Better?

To judge who is the better Cryo DPS between Ayaka and Wriothesley, there are several consideration based on gameplay, kit system, and so on. User PandaFlyh on community site, HoYolab, shared a comparative analysis of Ayaka and Wriothesley.

According to him, Wriothesley is a powerful Hypercarry character and the damage he produces is quite stable even at C0. With his combo, Wriothesley is suitable for players who are comfortable playing using normal attacks and charge attacks. This is because Wriothesley's elemental skill is useful for increasing the damage of his normal attacks.

For team comps, Wriothesley is a character who could be on almost any team. PandaFlyh mentioned that this character shows good performance when included in the Melt team with Xiangling, Bennett, and Shenhe/Furina. However, Wriothesley is also suitable to play on the BurnMelt, VapeMelt, Double Hydro and Freeze teams. With so many teams to enter, Wriothesley is perfect for F2P players.

On the other hand, Ayaka is also a quite powerful Hypercarry character. Ayaka is one of the strongest Burst DMGs, with the ability to kill bosses very quickly. Even though her C0 is good, Ayaka is able to show her best performance in C2 – C4. This character is also very good in Freeze and mono-Cryo teams with Shenhe, Kokomi, Kazuha, and Rosaria. Due to the high investment in Ayaka's team and also the small number of teams she can join, Ayaka is not F2P friendly enough.

To determine who is the best between the two, everything is a subjective opinion depending on the needs of each individual. If the player is F2P, then Wriothesley is probably the best choice. However, if the player is a Meta player and wants to level up the Spiral Abyss easily, Ayaka is a better choice.
